Please prepare...
- 16-32 bars of contemporary or jazz/blues-based musical theatre (or similar)
- one of the music cuts from the show we have provided (CUTS COMING SOON)
- a monologue no longer than one minute.
Rehearsals will begin the first week of June. The show runs JULY 2 - JULY 25, 2021. If cast, all actors over the age of 16 will receive a stipend and there will be no "performance fee" required of child actors.

CHARACTERS:
CAROLINE THIBODEAUX
Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: 35 to 45, Mezzo-Soprano E3-E5
Works as a maid to the Gellman family. She is a divorcee with four children and resistant to change in the world. Bitter, tired, devoted.
NOAH GELLMAN
Non-Black Male Identifying, Age Portrayed: 7 to 10, Countertenor G3-E5
A young Jewish-American boy, the son of Caroline's employer, Stuart Gellman. Shy, forgetful, and looks to Caroline for comfort and distraction.
THE RADIO
Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: any adult, Trio a la Supremes
Part narrator, part friend, and part subconscious to Caroline and her story. Played by three women.

A Jewish-American man and jazz clarinetist (preferred if actor can play the clarinet). Noah's father and Rose's new husband. He is also Caroline's employer. He has trouble connecting to his son and new wife.
ROSE STOPNIK GELLMAN
Non-Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: 35 to 45, Mezzo-Soprano G3-E5
Stuart's new wife and Noah's Stepmother. An old friend of the Gellmans. She has recently moved to the South.
MR. STOPNIK

Rose's father from New York City. A politically progressive man with dissenting opinions.
EMMIE THIBODEAUX
Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: 16 to 18, Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano F3-F5
Caroline's only daughter and the second of four children. Observant, rebellious, outspoken.
JACKIE THIBODEAUX
Black Male Identifying, Age Portrayed: 9 to 12, Tenor A3-D5
Caroline's son. Though he is older than Joe, he is more sweet and naïve.
JOE THIBODEAUX
Black Male Identifying, Age Portrayed: 8 to 11, Tenor B3-D5
Caroline's son. Though he is the baby of the family, he is outspoken and skeptical.
DOTTY MOFFETT
Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: 25-35, Mezzo-Soprano F3-D5
Caroline's high-spirited friend and fellow maid. A drinker and smoker, she is routinely admonished by Caroline for her behavior.
GRANDMA GELLMAN
Non-Black Female Identifying, Age Portrayed: 55 to 65, Mezzo-Soprano G3-E5
Stuart's mother and Noah's grandmother. She is concerned for her son's melancholy and an admirer of his new wife.
GRANDPA GELLMAN

Stuart's father and Noah's grandfather. He is aloof to the changes occurring in the South.
